10 Incredible Classic Rock Albums We Never Got To Hear
6. Electric Nebraska - Bruce Springsteen
Nearly every Bruce Springsteen fan has great things to say about the Nebraska album. The record shows the Boss in a much rawer state than his other records, while the songs tell some of his most intimate stories like on the title track and "Atlantic City."
The characters in these stories seem to be left to their own devices, which is really telling given Springsteen recorded most of the record by himself. Across just a few magical days, most of these tunes were laid to tape on a cassette recorder Springsteen was using for demos. After hearing the playback of the tracks, he decided that the E Street Band were not needed and decided to release the blemished recordings as the finished album.
These songs have great story arcs, so it almost feels like a missed opportunity for Springsteen to continue on without the brash sound of the band beside him. However, there's a certain magic that comes from the Boss just sitting down and hammering out these tunes in this more intimate setting. These songs could have been taken to a different level if plugged in, but maybe things worked out just the way they were supposed to.
