10 Incredible Rock Singers Who Were In TWO Great Bands
9. Damon Albarn - Blur/Gorillaz/The Good The Bad And The Queen
When the Britpop hype train started to get underway, you could not escape the ongoing rivalry between Oasis and Blur. While the Gallagher brothers may have had the more straight-ahead rock tunes, the sonic adventures you would get from Blur were irresistible in no small part to Damon Albarn's voice.
Albarn's approach to singing as well as lyrical style made for songs that were both tuneful and sarcastic at the same time like on "End of the Century" and "Charmless Man." Even when Blur had taken some time off in the early 2000's, Albarn reinvented himself with the alternative outfit Gorillaz, a virtual band started by him and Jamie Hewlett.
As opposed to Blur's more straight-ahead approach, Gorillaz's experimentation with hip hop, trip hop, and electronic music made for some of the most infectious music to come out after the turn of the century.
Working even further past his roots, Damon help found the supergroup of the Good the Bad and the Queen, where he works with members of the Clash and the Verve to create a more adventurous form of art rock. At a time when the future for musicians is uncertain, Albarn seems to be using his various projects to push his art forward as much as possible.
