10 Incredible Rock Singers Who Were In TWO Great Bands

2. Chris Cornell - Soundgarden/Temple Of The Dog/Audioslave

If you were at all familiar with the grunge sound of the 90's, you have grown used to the sound of the yarl. The distinctive type of low singing that Eddie Vedder created launched a whole new subsect of singers who wanted to make their living out of singing like they had an underbite. It may have been the sound of the day, but absolutely no one could touch Chris Cornell.

Cornell's exquisite vocal timbre in Soundgarden gave the band the label of "the 90's Zeppelin" once they hit it big. Though Soundgarden was always Cornell's main outlet, he found ways to carry on after their dissolution in the early 2000's. Teaming up with former members of Rage Against the Machine, Cornell formed Audioslave, which was a much more straightforward hard rock act with huge songs like "Cochise" and "Like a Stone."

Even when Cornell was in Soundgarden, he still found time to pay tribute to his old friend Andy Wood with Temple of the Dog, where he would play frontman opposite Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament, who would later form the foundations of Pearl Jam.

Across so many great acts, Cornell never failed to amaze with his stratospheric range. Though he may not be with us in physical form anymore, his spirit will live on in these powerful rock tracks for years to come.
