10 Incredible Rock Singers Who Were In TWO Great Bands
3. Sammy Hagar - Montrose/Van Halen
By the standards of most rock stars, Sammy Hagar really hit the ground running in the early 70's. When he was still in his teens, Hagar found his first success collaborating with the band Montrose, where his singing style meshed perfectly with Ronnie Montrose's guitar riffs. The work that Hagar did in this band was so influential that they eventually ended up influencing everyone from Iron Maiden to even an early incarnation of Van Halen.
Once Hagar felt comfortable, he quickly abandoned Montrose and started a solo career, where he saw even bigger hits like "I Can't Drive 55" and "There's Only One Way To Rock." However, Hagar wasn't done wowing the hard rock world once he got his first solo success.
Shortly after he started to gain traction, Hagar was picked up by Van Halen, where he was asked to fill the shoes of the incomparable David Lee Roth. Instead of falling flat on its face, this new incarnation of the band help give them a second wind to launch them into the back half of the 80's on the strength of tracks like "When It's Love" and "Dreams."
Given the bands he touched, Sammy Hagar seems to be the ideal cure for a band who needs their career to pop.
