9. The Regrettes
The Regrettes are a somewhat unique band in the current scene, combing the best bits out of the Riot Grrrl sound of the 1990s and smashing it with indie rhythms and lyrics - and it becomes very catchy very quickly.
Lydia Night is poised to become one of the best frontwomen in the modern day scene, and her voice gels wonderfully with the harder sounds the band put out. Nonetheless, they don't shy away from the pop rhythms that have dominated the genre, as demonstrated in "I Dare You", which is one of the most upbeat tracks to come out of 2019.
What's also worth noting is that the sound did change slightly between albums, as the original bassist and drummer left rather quickly, but both "eras" of the Regrettes have huge numbers that punch hard with turns of phrase akin to the songwriters of yesteryear.
