8. Wallows
Having the ability to do mellow and upbeat anthems is a talent some bands struggle with - Wallows are not one of them.
Fronted by the talented Dylan Minnette (of 13 Reasons Why fame), his voice and lyricism really make this band stand out from the crowd. It could be said that part of their success could be owed to Dylan being quite a prolific actor, but the ingenuity of their sound is really something to behold. For example, the song "These Days" actually feels like the essence of grocery store music with interesting lyrics. Now something like this could have worked against the band, but it gels to create a chilled tune.
The lyricism of Wallows is probably best demonstrated in "Are You Bored Yet?", talking about the inability to buy into romantic stereotypes and the sublime added vocals of rising star Clairo was a wonderful choice, and though this could seem downbeat in lexical choice, Wallows lyrics overall are delightfully childish and whimsical.
