10 Indie Rock Bands That Released 5 Great Albums In A Row

3. The Pixies

The Pixies are probably one of the progenitors of what has come to be known as indie rock. Though their sound was more straightforward than some of their contemporaries, the band also had a hand in forging elements of grunge and alternative rock that would appear in the '90s. Even if they got started a decade too early, the band's first run of albums is beyond reproach.

As Surfer Rosa kicked the door down, the band began forging their sound with combinations of surf music, art rock, and straight-ahead pop tunes. Going further into albums like Doolittle and Bossanova, the band kept their streak with some of the most infectious tunes to ever come from the underground. It might a bit of a harsh listen to grasp onto something like "Debaser" for the first time, but the pure jangle behind "Here Comes Your Man" can win over the heart of nearly anyone.

Even with some of their less celebrated efforts like Trompe Le Monde and Indie Cindy being pretty great, the band has never really released any album that could be considered subpar. With even some of the band's advisors like Gil Norton rising to prominence in recent years, the entire aura of the Pixies is something that goes beyond just the typical indie rock circuit.
