10 Indie Rock Bands That Released 5 Great Albums In A Row

2. The Smiths

When most people bring up the greatest indie bands of all time, a lot of big names end up coming from the US. For as much as the American underground has given us great material to choose from, the British scene could hold their own, with the Smiths becoming one of the greatest indie acts of all time.

As soon as the first Smiths album starts, the band's sound seeps into your brain smoothly, with Morrissey's emotional baritone being perfectly married to the guitar tone of Johnny Marr. As the band played on through Meat is Murder, their political leanings were only matched by their insatiable wit. Turning towards more emotionally potent topics, albums like the Queen is Dead and Strangeways, Here We Come hold up as some of the most timeless music ever released in the '80s.

Even with only 4 proper studio albums to their name, the Smiths were one of the few bands who could make phenomenal albums out of their outtakes, with albums like Hatful of Hallow and The World Won't Listen featuring songs that could easily have been fantastic album cuts. You can say what you want to about Morrissey's personality as of late, but when it comes to making phenomenal music, the Smiths' discography is damn near flawless.
