10 Key Elements To The Paul McCartney Is Dead Theory
1. Bass Guitar Wreath
Back in the early days, the band had another bass player, Mr. Stuart Sutcliffe. Sutcliffe was a pal of Lennon's and one of those arty creative types. He was a good guy but a terrible bass player and used to play with his back to the audience so they wouldn't see how awful he was. Sadly, Sutcliffe passed away at just 21 years old leaving the band without a bassist.
Nobody wanted the job because, as we all know, the bass player is the least memorable member of any band. After much pressure, McCartney was lumbered with the instrument mostly because he could play just about anything.
As expected, Macca quickly took the instrument under his wing and became one of the best bass players of all time. So, is this the reason why there is a bass guitar-shaped wreath in the bottom right-hand corner of the Sgt Pepper album? Acting as a sort of symbol to remember their recently deceased band member?
Some say it's a subtle reference to ex-bandmate, Stuart Sutcliffe while others claim it is a direct reference to the best bass player in the world, Paul McCartney. Whatever the case, it sure is creepy.
