6. Raunchy - Last Christmas
My personal favourite Christmas number - even the version by Wham doesn't fill me with as much hate as you might imagine - covered by German band Raunchy. There are two versions of this track - from what I've heard - one with fully clean vocals and another that features grind-core vocals just after the third verse. This one is easily one of the most enjoyable thanks in part to the majestic delivery of lines like "Well it's been a year, it doesn't surprise me..." The track completely fits the name of the band: it is literally "energetically earthy and sexually explicit" and though it's unclear whether George Michael has heard this version of his Christmas classic, the thought of him picking up the cheque every year for its royalties is highly amusing. The original remains a stalwart addition to almost every Christmas play list (as well as being one of the most impressive releases of the '80s generally) but this hyper-sexual cover takes it onto a whole new level, somewhere closer to the gutter.
