10 Legendary Music Artists That Never Got Better Than Their Debut Record

2. Guns N Roses

As rock stumbled its way into 1987, Guns N Roses really felt like a band out of place. Even though they were playing the same type of venues that the likes of Ratt and Poison used to play at the time, there was a lot more rock and roll cred behind them, like they were the best '70s rock band that managed to gain traction a decade late. Once we got a taste of what their music sounded like though, the LA rock scene started to feel a lot more dangerous again.

Looking to draw from classic rock bands like Aerosmith and AC/DC, Appetite for Destruction might be the best record to come out of the LA scene in the '80s, with Slash and Izzy Stradlin having incredible chemistry behind the fretboard. Along with Axl Rose being an absolute madman every time they took to the stage, the entire crew felt like a gang that were just as dangerous off the stage as they were on it.

Just a few years later though, Guns seemed to grow up just a little bit too fast, with their next proper album being a double record of all new material, complete with 9 minute power ballads trying to blend with the traditional rock of the early days. The Use Your Illusion records still have tons of great moments on them, but the minute you heard something like Estranged, you knew that we were never going to get something like Appetite ever again.
