10 Legendary Rock Bands That Aren't In The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame
5. Motorhead
After the era of Flower Power, rock and roll was starting to look a lot more ugly. In between the more peaceful sounds of the San Francisco area, acts like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin were already planting the seeds of what would become heavy metal, leading to the high energy of what would become the New Wave of British Heavy Metal in the late '70s. There was one missing link there, and metal's roots didn't firmly fall into place until Motorhead hit the scene.
For all that they've contributed to the genre though, Lemmy always considered Motorhead to be a straight up rock and roll band, and you can clearly see why. Outside of the massive volume of the band and the gruff vocal delivery, these are basically the kind of old time rock and roll tunes that you would have seen out of Gene Vincent back in the day, and Lemmy always stood by being rock and roll more than anything else. Even if the Hall doesn't see them as worthy of the accolade though, there's more than a few inductees who do.
Going through the past few years of ceremonies, bands like Metallica have voiced their opinion for Motorhead going into the Hall, from their classic stamp on music to Lemmy's journeyman status making him one of the greatest rock and roll figures in history. The Hall of Fame may be more concerned with who was the most innovative artist in rock and roll, but there's nothing wrong with doing exactly what it says on the tin either.
