10 Legendary Rock Bands With Sophomore Slump Albums
8. N/A - New Radicals
For a brief moment in time, it looked like the New Radicals were going to be one of the biggest bands of the late '90s. Though their 15 minutes of fame were really brief, songs like You Get What You Give and Someday We'll Know have become pop classics, and that second album seemed to promise even more. It's an album with purpose, a sharper focus in the songwriting, and also one that none of us got to hear.
Before the band's first record celebrated its first birthday, Gregg Alexander quietly ended the entire project. As the fisher's cap over his eyes would lead you to believe, this guy was not exactly comfortable with being all that famous, choosing to work behind the scenes as a songwriter rather than in front of the camera. Even though he had a world of potential waiting at his feet, his new home in songwriting gave us a hint at what those songs would have sounded like, and they are amazing.
Working with everyone from Hanson to Santana, songs like the Game of Love would have worked incredibly well as a New Radicals song if Gregg hadn't been so closed off to the public. What we ended up with was one of the greatest songwriters of the slacker generation getting his kicks behind the scenes, with most of the hardcore fans having to dig a little deeper to find the good stuff. Alexander has said that he has written an entire album's worth of New Radicals songs, but it's anyone's guess if they'll ever be released.
