Throughout her career Queen Bey has touched upon the idea of feminism. The independent woman has confidently dealt with more liers and cheats then you can shake a stick at whilst establishing a partnership of equals with her loving husband Jay Z and establishing her own self worth too.
Feminists, Academics, the media and even fans saw the feminism in her music and were quick to pin the label on her. During an interview with Vogue in 2013, Bey lightly touched upon the subject describing herself as a "modern day feminist" It was not until a year later that she evolved from girl power goddess to full blown feminist icon.
She famously claimed the label at the 2014 MTV VMA's in a lavish full set production of her latest album BEYONCE. She's since penned an essay for the Shriver Report discussing the impact of gender inequality in society and acted as a figure in the "Ban Bossy" campaign to encourage leadership in young girls and women. Germaine Greer is probably clapping somewhere.
