10 Lost Albums That Were Released Years Later

5. Toy - David Bowie

Throughout every decade of rock music, it seemed like David Bowie was right there paving the way for all of us. Going from one strange musical venture to the next, the Thin White Duke seemed to have enough artistic talent in his body than most people have for 4 lifetimes. Even with all of that talent, even the musical aliens can be fallible sometimes.

Once the new millennium started, Bowie got to work on his new album Toy, which was set to bring him back to his roots. Alongside a handful of new songs, this was going to be Bowie reworking some of his older material and fleshing out songs from his youth that he never got to finish. After a fallout with the producer though, Bowie eventually relented to go in a different direction with his album Heathen.

While you do get different takes on Bowie's reaction to events like 9/11, Toy's eventual release online still showed us what could have been a great Bowie record. Hell, when you look at the bones of some of these songs, there are probably some who would argue that releasing this would have been an improvement over what we got on his past few records. Even when going back to his very early days, Bowie still had the songwriting chops to create something spectacular.
