10 Lost Albums That Were Released Years Later
3. Get Back - The Beatles
Towards the end of the '60s, all of the peace and love sensibilities of the Beatles were being thrown out the door. After the disastrous sessions for their self titled White Album, the Fab Four were slowly drifting apart and had to deal with the business of Apple Corps in between making records. Though Abbey Road was the real goodbye from the group that defined the '60s, it was actually covering up for what was originally planned on Get Back.
Much like the title and song would lead you to believe, this was supposed to be the group's return to roots record, where they would hunker down and get used to their bar band sensibilities again. Once they showed up for work though, the sessions grinded to a halt, with a bunch of lackluster equipment hanging around and cameras filming everything to be a part of the upcoming Beatles film.
By the time they released Abbey Road, there was no chance of getting every Beatle in the same room again, so Glyn Johns and Phil Spector eventually turned the tapes into the album Let It Be, which acted as the real swan song for the Beatles' last days. Even then the band wasn't fully happy with it, given that Paul McCartney was involved in Let It Be...Naked, which was how he would have wanted it. After years in production hell, we should just let these songs have peace.
