10 Massively Underrated Albums From The 2000s
6. Mclusky - Mclusky Do Dallas (2002)
Whoever let Mclusky out of their cage deserves a medal: storming through the record with pure visciousness, the post-hardcore trio rampage all over Mclusky Do Dallas. The record is produced by Steve Albini, making it watertight power punk with all the savagery of a bunch of dogs finally running free after ripping off their leads. Above all, this record is fun, you can tell the band had a blast making it and as a result, the album is infectious.
Mclusky have an onbioxious attitude which makes them sound like Art Brut’s rapid post hardcore second cousins. They’re in and out on Mclusky Do Dallas, using humour to lighten breakdowns and make this album effortless fun to listen to. The band have been likened to the Pixies but without the dynamics levels and variation, but isn’t entirely true, the band know when to slow things down, lighten off the attitude or play with levels, they just never do all three things at once.
The band never compromise, they’re just here to have fun, and if you find Mclusky Do Dallas to be too relentless, they’ve achieved everything they set out to do.
