10 Massively Underrated Albums From The 2000s

5. Gwen Stefani - The Sweet Escape (2006)

When Gwen Stefani left No Doubt to pursue a solo career, nobody really expected she’d make an album as good as 2004s Love. Angel. Music. Baby. The record fused electronics with bubblegum pop and new wave and spawned singles such as Hollaback Girl, Rich Girl and What You Waiting For - it proved that she was one of the best songwriters in the game and people loved it.

However two years later, when Stefani released The Sweet Escape it did well commercially and its title track was a hit single, however it sold a fraction of what it’s predecessor did.

People simply didn’t get on with The Sweet Escape as well as Love. Angel. Music. Baby. and it’s criminal when considering how good the songs are. Co Written by Pharell WIlliams, the album is often tighter than its predecessor, dizzying and full of great songs full of attitude such as Wind It Up, Orange County Girl and Now That You Got It. It’s potentially a more straight ahead record, but it’s the kind of earworm songwriting you just can’t deny.
