10 Masterpiece Albums Everyone Ignored

Returning The Love.

Many people expect all great music to rise to the top of the charts. After all, since an album is ingrained in everyone's eardrums because the radio can't stop playing it, that automatically means it's good right? Well...that kind of mindset had faded a long time ago...and yet these albums are still left by the wayside.

Even though some artists have a hard time finding their footing in the mainstream, albums like these prove that they are worth so much more than your average rock album. In lieu of the half-way decent also-rans of the rock industry, plenty of acts have come to the forefront with albums that were some of the best the genre had to offer. It would have been awesome if these had gotten to the top of the heap...given that most of these were slept-on.

Granted, that might not always be the album's fault a lot of the time. Sometimes an artist just finds themselves at the wrong place at the wrong time, while others might have a really bad marketing team that never learned how to properly showcase their talent. Either way, these are the undiscovered diamonds that ended up getting thrown out with the coal. Prepare to do some deep digging to find some of rock's real classics.

10. Feeling Strangely Fine - Semisonic

There's probably a good chance that people just think of Semisonic as "the Closing Time guys." Even though each respective member have made waves in the music industry since their initial hit, it always comes back to this borderline campfire song that dominated the charts back in the '90s. While they never had a real true hit to their name, Feeling Strangely Fine is the one classic from the '90s that no one is talking about.

Yes...it does have Closing Time accounted for, but there are many subtle intricacies that make this album a must-listen. In lieu of listening to the one hit for the billionth time, try throwing on something like Singing In My Sleep, whose hook would have worked wonders if it didn't have to live up to its older brother's potential. Even some of the more sleeper songs on the album like This Will Be My Year have some clever writing bits on them, as songwriter Dan Wilson starts to come into his own as a pop force of nature.

It's not like that didn't go unnoticed either, as Wilson would soon become a popular writer behind the scenes, where he penned lyrics and music for everyone from Weezer to Adele. While Semisonic may not have been the most photogenic of groups, their first reach for stardom is the one album from the '90s you may need right now.
