10 Masterpiece Albums From Supposedly "Terrible" Bands

4. Dookie - Greenday

The Album

A tickle of the symbols and some rapid drum beats kick off the opening track to what can easily be held up as one of the best punk albums of all time. But, like said opener, the band behind it never released an album like this again. Total 'Burnout'.

But what a debut Greenday burst out with. From skate park anthem 'Basket Case' to the affirming melodies of 'When I Come Around', every other pit stop throughout this journey through East Bay slacker living sounds as fresh now as it did in the nineties. You can take your Vandels and Descendants - pop punk was born in this blast of breezy genius.

But what of Greenday now? Oh, they're one of the biggest bands in the world. But hey, that doesn't mean they're being wronged here. No album has come close to Dookie and bar some radio-friendly singles, and an album that tapped into the zeitgeist of the time but now just sounds clumsy, they are by no means the band many seem to believe they are.

Best Track

'Longview' is Greenday at their melodic/ ferocious best, a track that will never age.
