10 Masterpiece Albums From Supposedly "Terrible" Bands
3. Hopes & Fears - Keane
The Album
Yes, another nougties bunch of indie chancers that put everything they had into a debut album, only to ghost us soon after - but they don't come better than Hopes & Fears.
In 2004 this mega-selling effort from East Sussex's finest pummelled the world into submission with a twee blend of catchy indie tunes, elevated to a new level via some staggeringly impressive vocals from singer Tom Chapman.
Spearheaded by lead single 'Somewhere Only We Know', the album shifted 2.7 million albums alone in the UK and to this day - deservedly - stands as one of the most accomplished albums of the last decade. Roll over 15 years and the band are in a no man's land, with Chapman only recently wheeling out (*gulp*) a Christmas album.
Best Track
There's no hiding it: 'Somewhere Only We Know' is a tuneful indie radio hit that is totally unrivaled. But special mention has to go to 'Bedshaped', with its play dough-clever music video.
