10 Messiest Band Splits In Rock Music History
1. Guns N Roses
Sometimes it's no one's fault as to why a band has to break up. Musicians can't be in the same creative space forever, and there just comes a point where you need to branch out and find new roads to express yourself. Then there's instances where people just fed up with the one fly in the ointment.
By the time that Guns N Roses made their double album Use Your Illusion, things had started to come off the rails for Axl Rose. Taking full creative control of the group, the entire experience of songs like November Rain made it look more like the Axl Rose and Friends show than an actual band project. What's even more embarrassing was the tour, where Axl would just not show up to shows at all, which sometimes ended with fans rioting in the stands.
Along the way, you could see every one of the band members starting to lose it, from Steven Adler being fired during the recording sessions to Izzy Stradlin quitting halfway through after getting fed up with Axl's antics. Though the band hung in there for the covers record The Spaghetti Incident?, it didn't take long for Slash and the gang to follow suit. Considering the fact that a band like Velvet Revolver exists, it's become abundantly clear that Guns N Roses broke up because King Axl wanted his way or the highway.
