10 Messiest Band Splits In Rock Music History
2. The Beatles
In the late '60s, it truly felt like the Beatles' legacy was going to go on forever. No matter what kind of stumbling block stood in their way, the Fab Four always found a way to persevere and managed to make some of the most incredible music that the world had ever seen. That didn't mean that the four moptops that we loved hadn't grown along the way though.
After launching their Apple business model, things really started to hit a brick wall during the recording for the White Album, with most of the tracks feeling like glorified solo songs from all four members. Even though they tried to put things back on course, their return to roots with the Get Back project was shelved and they decided to work on Abbey Road instead.
Though the studio albums left things on good terms, the same couldn't be said for the business side of things, with Paul McCartney getting more and more troubled by what manager Allen Klein was trying to do with the rest of the band. If you need any indication as to how far the friendships sunk, just listen to the solo tracks from each of the band members, from George Harrison lamenting the loss of friendship on Isn't It a Pity to John Lennon dissing McCartney outright on How Do You Sleep?. For a band that was always about coming back to the unifying feeling of love, it's a shame that they couldn't take their own advice.
