10 Messiest Band Splits In Rock Music History
3. Eagles
If there was ever a band that shouldn't have been as combustible for their genre, it should have been the Eagles. Considering that they built their career on mellow music, you'd think that the only thing that they would get angry about is whether or not they could have a day at the beach when they're off tour. When someone in the band isn't getting paid though, things can start to boil over pretty quickly.
During the tumultuous tour promoting their album The Long Run, guitarist Don Felder wasn't too jazzed about the fact that they were playing a benefit concert for Senator Alan Cranston. While the rest of the band remained professional about the whole ordeal, Glenn Frey took issue with Felder's behavior, especially when he replied to the senator's thank you by saying "You're Welcome...I guess."
By the time they took the stage, the band was seething, which got even more over the top when they started to fight onstage in between songs. Imagine that crowd too, listening through songs like Tequila Sunrise and then hearing the singer talk about beating the sh*t out of the guitar player. The minute they stepped offstage, Felder smashed a guitar and drove off in a limousine, never to return again. If you insist on breaking up in a big way though, you'd be hardpressed to find a bigger dramatic moment than this.
