10 90s Metal Albums That Successfully Transformed Their Band's Sound

6. Corrosion Of Conformity - Deliverance

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvsQsao1F88 As good as 91's Blind was, it was clear Corrosion Of Conformity weren't finished with expanding their sound further. Cue the stoner rock titan Deliverance in '94. Guitarist Pepper Keenan would bring the genre to its logical conclusion with his side-project Down a year later, but not before tearing it up on his core group's first release in three years. Gone were the punk sensibilities of old, replaced with a warm smoke-drenched, classic metal sound that was reminiscent of the genre's originators. The yearning southern drawls and stuttering guitar work on 'Clean My Wounds' hit with a new found freedom not heard in the band's work prior to Deliverance, while the careering claustrophobia of 'Shake Like You' finds the group experiment with various production techniques, all while keeping the riffs coming hard and heavy. However it's the absurdly good title-title track that takes the plaudits here, thanks to one of the most headbang-friendly, menace-driven riffs you're ever likely to hear. If the incredible title track doesn't do it for you then maybe the genre as a whole is not for you. For the rest of us, this fine relic of the 90's exhibits all the wonderful things that make heavy metal such a satisfying musical genre to millions. Key Tracks: Clean My Wounds, Senor Limpio, Seven Days, Deliverance
