10 Metal Albums With ONE Bad Song
1. Back To School - Deftones
For all the cringy moments that came out of the nu metal scene, the arrival of White Pony by Deftones made it all feel worth it. After slogging through one fashionable band after another, here were true artists who came together and made a sonic statement, complete with influences from metal, shoegaze, and even electronic music in between.
So naturally, that means that the perfection needed to be tampered with.
Once the band handed in the record to their label, some suits from Maverick Records were a little wary about not having a great hit single to sell to the public. Wanting them to rewrite their album closer Pink Maggit, Chino Moreno was pissed and decided to turn it into a joke and make some of the most corn-ball rap verses to use for the track. The only problem was...no one picked up on the joke.
Seeing the potential that a song like this had with the Limp Bizkit crowd, Maverick rush released this version of the song as a single and threw it on as a track on most of the versions of the album. Nowadays, there's pretty much no way to find a version of White Pony without Back to School outside of the original pressings.
All newer bands...you might want to take note here. This is the kind of consequences that happen when you compromise.
