10 Metal Bands Who Made 5 Great Albums In A Row
8. The Black Dahlia Murder
Every two years, like clockwork, The Black Dahlia Murder come along and push the boundaries of what extreme metal can do and how good it can be. Inheriting their name form Hollywood hopeful Elizabeth Short who was nicknamed Black Dahlia after being found dead and gruesomely sawed clean in half, the band take from all things gory, bleak and dark.
Their debut record Unhallowed (2003) saw the band merge death metal with their punk and hardcore roots to great success. The crushingly heavy record provided an entrance for the uninitiated into extreme music while pushing boundaries appealing to existing fans of the genre. The band signed to Metal Blade and followed the record up with the classic Miasma (2005). The Black Dahlia Murder cemented themselves as technically dextrous musicians well aware of how good melody can sound when blended with death metal.
Then came Nocturnal (2007), Deflorate (2009), Ritual (2011), the first and last seeing the band bounce back heavily after a lesser well-received album. Despite not every Black Dahlia Murder record being a smash hit with fans, critics or the band themselves, they’re all objectively incredible records and 17 years after their debut, they’re still the best in their game.
