10 Metal Bands You Need To Hear Now

7. Krypts

krypts-unending-degradation-c76610 Current Release: Unending Degradation Label: Dark Descent Records From the underrated Finnish death metal scene, comes a debut, festering blast from the past that imbues some of the Finnish greats like Funebre, Convulse and Abhorrence. While the Swedish death metal scene is getting almost saturated with Entombed sound alikes, bands like Corpsessed, Desolate Shrine, Gorephilia, Maveth and Krypts have exhumed the Finnish sound- slightly dirtier and darker and less catchy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXepCVY-uK4 The debut from Krypts is a filthy, murky, cavernous record that has a crumbling, claustrophobic sound and tone, but manages to be memorable, rather than a dense wall of atonal noise or Incantation rip off as many of their peers are doing. From the opening, aptly titled, musty blast of "Open the Krypt" through closer "Beneath the Archaic", the album is a 38 minute journey into dank, moist, dark tunnels where unknown creatures skitter and scatter in the blackness. Heavy, intelligent and all that is good about old death metal wrapped up in a new sheen, Krypts is one of death metal's flag bearers in 2012.

I am metal. I am so metal I ejaculate mercury. OK, love puppies, pro football and my daughter, so how's that for balance? I own a little metal blog called teethofthedivine.com and used to write for Metal Maniacs, Unrestrained magazines and currently help out with Hails and Horns and New Noise magazines. Yeah- I guess I am metal.
