10 Metal Songs Inspired By Famous Movies

6. Prosthetics – Slipknot

Inspiration: The Collector

Given the band’s appearance, it probably won’t come as much of a surprise to know one of Slipknot’s songs was inspired by a psychological horror movie.

‘Prosthetics’ is one of the deeper cuts on the band’s eponymous debut album, and the lyrics were inspired by The Collector – a 1965 British horror movie directed by William Wyler (best-known for Ben-Hur).

The film centres on a man abducting a young woman and keeping her captive inside his home. This creepy premise is brought to life by frontman Corey Taylor who captures the unhinged, obsessive nature of the lead character with a deranged vocal performance.

The instrumental also captures the tone of the film. The eerie first part of the track is in line with the kidnapper’s fixation with his victim, and the intense climax of the song mirrors the more violent exchanges between the two lead characters.

It’s a shame ‘Prosthetics’ isn’t a more well-known track from Slipknot, because this unorthodox tune perfectly encapsulates the tone of The Collector.
