Flying Lotus' fifth album is an exploration of death's inevitability that spans several genres for a warm musical experience. Regarding a topic often treated with a great deal of weight, the album approaches mortality with a distinct sense of humor. Ever since 2010's Cosmogramma, Flying Lotus has been creating some of the most experimental efforts in instrumental music today, and You're Dead! is a culmination of his past efforts. His signature bizarre electronics merge with a colorful live jazz setup, which features artists such as Herbie Hancock, Thundercat, and Kamasi Washington adding to the album's palette. 

The album's introspection is of a full-volume variety. It is loud, up front, and attacks the listener with every successive song.
