10 Modern Rock Bands You Need To Listen To

7. PUP

For all of its great music, emo may have been the most ill conceived subgenre of rock music imaginable. I mean, since all music is meant to make you feel something in one form or another, how the hell do you manage to name yourself after the entire concept of emotion? Well, if you're a band like PUP, it normally comes in the form of taking every single emotion possible to the absolute max.

While starting off as your average pop punk band, PUP have been the forerunners in the trend of making their subgenre hit a lot closer to home than most would probably want it to. Though things were starting to look pretty dour on their album the Dream is Over, the quantum leap they took on Morbid Stuff started tackling some much heavier material. Suffice to say, that name is not a joke, with most of the songs speaking about the struggles living with anxiety, depression, and pretty much anything else that comes with attempting to grow up in this day and age.

For as much as these guys have a lot of feelings to let out, it never gets to the point where it feels like their culling for your attention or anything. These are just the kind of songs that you hold on to like life rafts and make sure you're able to survive the whole ordeal by the end.
