10 Modern Rock Music Artists With A Throwback Sound

3. Machine Gun Kelly

Apologies to anyone who remembers it when it was new, but pop punk is now so old it can be classed as throwback.

Blink-182's Enema of the State came out in 1999. Do you know how many people have been born since then?

The story of Machine Gun Kelly is an interesting one to say the least. MGK first came to public attention as a rapper and it looked like that's how he was going to define his legacy.

Instead, seemingly out of nowhere, Kelly pivoted wildly and ended up at the forefront of the pop punk revival.

With his album Tickets to my Downfall, the former hip-hop man was now fully immersed in this new musical world. He even hired Travis Barker to help produce it - doesn't get much more pop punk than that!

If you didn't know that he was a rapper beforehand, you'd have no idea that MGK was ever anything but a rock musician.

He's clearly a massive fan and wanted to play his part in returning the subgenre to prominence. Considering how famous he has become, it looks like he's achieved that mission.
