10 More Great Rock Music Singles That Never Appeared On An Album
8. Don’t Look Back Into The Sun - The Libertines
Alongside his career as a professional drug-taker, Pete Doherty found time to perform music with his band The Libertines.
A pillar of the British garage rock revival of the early 2000s, The Libertines were absolutely white hot at their peak, which was only a couple of years due in part to singer and guitarist Doherty's extra-curricular activities.
There are only three albums with their name on it and only two of them came out when the band were in their prime. That gave the song Don't Look Back into the Sun a slim chance of finding a home, which it failed to do.
It was their first single to be released off the back of their highly-fruitful first album, Up the Bracket, and their biggest chart success to date. It reached number 11 in the UK, but really secured its legacy when it was chosen as the opening music for beloved TV sitcom Gavin and Stacy.
Apologies to anyone who isn't British, to whom that will mean nothing.
If the band get paid for all those re-runs, then Don't Look Back into the Sun is easily their biggest cash cow.
