10 More Great Rock Music Singles That Never Appeared On An Album
7. Stay Together - Suede
Often overlooked in the grand retrospective of Britpop, Suede experienced more than their fair share of fame and fortune when the genre was at its height.
Their self-titled debut album was a number one smash hit, with every other album they released during the 90s being a top five success. Things dropped off in the 2000s, but when you hear how 90s Suede sounded, you'll understand why.
Stay Together from 1994 served as a bridge between the band's first and second album, which was actually quite a common practice for Britpop bands. It proved to be a pivotal record for them, as it would be the final single released during the tenure of original guitarist Bernard Butler.
Its themes of loss proved to be too much for Butler, who had recently experienced the death of his father.
Even though it was a massive hit, Stay Together was absent from the band's next release, Dog Man Star. Maybe its individual success meant that it didn't need to be on an album? Were the band eager to move on from Butler's work?
Who's to say, but fans would have to wait until 2003 before Stay Together was included on a Suede singles compilation.
