10 More Happy Songs That Are Insanely Dark

8. LDN - Lily Allen

Lily Allen is no stranger to controversial themes that are clouded by immensely listenable music. Tunes like The Fear, Alfie and Smile are all amazing at subverting expectations, so Lily Allen has somehow racked up an impressive amount of radio airtime for songs with very adult themes.

Lily Allen's discography is littered with brutally honest songs about anything from drug addiction to lousy sex, despite the melodies of each feeling decidedly un-brutal. LDN fits this description perfectly, as the reggae-inspired melody creates a positive, upbeat song that contrasts hugely with the lyrics that accompany the tune.

The bustling metropolis of London Town is far from the city that's depicted in the media. It's a wonderfully diverse, friendly and equal parts daunting place, but Allen's LDN acknowledges the darker side of the city, making the song feel all the more relevant to gain a well-rounded view of what The Big Smoke is truly like.

The song's themes are absolutely deserving of further analysis, and its catchiness demands multiple listens. However, Lily Allen dancing through London's dilapidated streets in the fanciest of frocks and the cleanest of Air Max 90's as featured in the music video is perhaps explanation enough.
