10 More Hard Rock Music Artists Who Released Two Great Albums In 2 Consecutive Years

9. Joe Satriani - Not Of This Earth & Surfing With The Alien

The old saying goes that those who can't do teach.

In the case of Joe Satriani, he did both.

Satriani began his career as a guitar teacher to a number of famous musicians. He can count solo artist Steve Vai, Metallica's Kirk Hammett, and Primus' Larry LaLonde amongst his students, teaching them all how to shred they were little long-haired nippers.

In the 1980s, Satriani got bored of teaching people how to play and decided to put his considerable talents to use as a performer.

Alongside playing on albums with Crowded House and tours with Mick Jagger, he also put out his first two solo albums in 1986 and 1987 respectively.

Not of This Earth came first, showcasing the axeman's impressive playing and composition skills. Though it didn't sell very well, it's still a great album and will leave you in awe at one man's skill with a guitar.

Then came Surfing with the Alien, Satriani's breakthrough and yet another display of his instrumental prowess. Its combination of traditional rock with jazz and swing sounds transformed Satriani from former teacher to global megastar.

He never had to grade another paper ever again.
