10 More Hard Rock Music Artists Who Released Two Great Albums In The Same Year
5. The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced & Axis: Bold As Love
Across his entire lifetime, Jimi Hendrix only released four proper albums. One of them was a live album, and the other three all came out within 18 months of each other.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience's final album Electric Ladyland is the outlier, as that came out in October 1968. That leaves us with Are Your Experienced and Axis: Bold as Love, both of which were released in 1967.
Are You Experienced was first and it blew everybody away. Nobody had quite heard anything like it, this blend of psychedelia, folk, and the early days of heavy metal.
The UK and US version had different opening tracks, but that didn't matter as those songs were Foxy Lady and Purple Haze respectively. No matter which version you got, you were guaranteed a banger.
The Experience just snuck in another album, dropping Axis in December 1967. This record had yet more classics on it, including Little Wing, Castles Made of Sand, and If Six Was Nine.
You can't really go wrong with anything Hendrix did, so we're lucky that he managed to squeeze out two releases in the same year.
Just imagine what else he would have done had he lived longer.
