10 More Hugely Outspoken Men In Rock And Metal Music
4. Oli Sykes
As one of the faces of modern rock music, Bring Me The Horizon receive an inflated share of hate from rock fans. The majority of this hostility is usually directed either at the band for 'selling out' to endorse more mainstream conventions, or vocalist Oliver Sykes.
Many rumours circle around Sykes' head, but it seems (much like Brendon Urie) very few of them stick. Some accusations against Sykes include the rumour that he urinated on a female fan after a show in Nottingham. According to the woman's testimony, 'someone within the band threw an empty bottle of Jagermeister' at her, though charges against Sykes were dropped through lack of evidence. Sykes' ex-wife, Hannah Snowden, also accused him of domestic abuse following their divorce in 2016.
In 2011, Sykes had a fight with some barrier jumping fans during a show. In a statement following the incident, Sykes said "a bunch of soft lads stomped on a kid’s head 5 seconds into our set, so we stopped playing" and called those responsible "freaking mongs".
Finally, Sykes is often criticised for his close relationship with controversial animal rights group, PETA, and for his outspoken stance on religion, which can be summarised by the following interview quote with Radio.com:
"If people believing in God had no effect on the world, then it wouldn't matter. If you want an imaginary friend that lives in the clouds that's fine. But it's the fact that it does have an effect on other people and other things and the whole world is in turmoil mainly because of religion, at least a massive part of it."
