10 More Perfect 2000s Rock Albums With No Bad Songs

6. Oracular Spectacular - MGMT (2007)

This record became over shadowed by the near incessant air play received by its three singles: Time to Pretend, Electric Feel and Kids. When a band releases tracks that end up being so domineering, it can be difficult to continue the momentum on an album. And these tracks were HUGE. They scored the soundtrack for the later part of the 2000s. They weren't just catchy pop songs, they were tracks with real substance.

But if you could get past the overriding urge to just play those three singles on a constant loop cycle, you would discover an album that was full of equally enjoyable numbers. The second track, Weekend Wars, was a change of pace but with the Ziggy Stardust style vocals demonstrated that these guys had more to offer.

Perhaps stacking the three most recognisable tracks in the early part of the album was a risky move, but if you give the rest of the album the time, you'll be pleasantly surprised by what you find. You can hear some folky influences coming through, these a hint of Fleet Foxes in there, and some distinctly Neil Young sounding guitar in the middle of track eight. This album was a solid contribution to the psychedelic rock/pop genre.
