10 More Perfect 2000s Rock Albums With No Bad Songs
5. These Streets - Paolo Nutini (2006)
The legacy of Paolo Nutini's debut album suffered, somewhat, from having several incredibly popular singles on it. The defining memories of Nutini's early career are the remorseful lost-love ballad Rewind and the irresistibly catchy New Shoes. If it wasn't for the fact New Shoes got drilled into our consciousness with all the insistence of a preacher imbuing the love of Christ into their congregation, this album might be more highly regarded.
The soul-rock stylings of the Scottish singer made for an engaging debut record. It mostly consisted of Scottish folk-rock ballads ,with the intimate lyrics and tender delivery of Nutini's vocals, offering one hell of a pleasant listen.
There's a time and place for this record, it was made for autumnal nights with a bottle of wine and a roaring fire, but don't listen to it on your own, unless you want to ruminant over past loves.
Nutini hasn't released any music for almost seven years. His three previous albums have all had a distinct sound. From folky ballads, to new world rhythms and his venture into rock inspired funk, it would be interesting to see what his next instalment might sound like...
