10 Most Anticipated Albums Still To Come In 2017
7. A Deeper Understanding - The War On Drugs
A Deeper Understanding is the most highly awaited album from The War On Drugs, to date. The huge sound of single Holding On, beautifully complimented by wistful jangling riffs and the epic, almost operetta, that is Thinking Of A Place give every indication it will live up to the hype.
A three year wait for this new record has only intensified the excitement around the Philadelphia sextet, especially after previous release Lost In The Dream was so successful both commercially and critically. The tracks we've already heard don't suggest that The War On Drugs will be deviating away from such praise, with the new songs already going down brilliantly with fans and critics alike.
If the band had already shown they can work with Kurt Vile, they're almost on the verge of making him look downright stupid for leaving. Don't get me wrong, Vile is great on his own and I'm sure the band would be open to working with him again but you feel like it might upset the rhythm. Like when a small football team signs and absolute superstar, it should work but you realise it's just thrown everything off. It makes Adam Granduciel's decision to shun any big name collaborations and just let him and the rest of the band do what they do best, look pretty damn smart.
