10 Most Anticipated Albums Still To Come In 2017
5. Lust For Life - Lana Del Rey
Elizabeth Woolridge Grant is borrowing a trick from Iggy Pop in the title of her new album. Maybe she was hoping for a spot on the Trainspotting 2 soundtrack by calling her new record Lust For Life, sadly just missing out by a few months. I'm sure she won't be too worried though, given the success of previous album Honeymoon and the fact that she has the likes of The Weeknd and Stevie Nicks joining her in her desire for being alive.
Of the tracks that have been debuted, it doesn't look like Lana Del Rey will be trying anything radically different. That's no bad thing though, she evokes Americana and a brooding atmosphere in a way that very few artists can. New single Love is almost Bruce Springsteen-esque in its video, showing blue collar yanks fixing cars and lyrics that speak of working, while being a young person in love. If you put The Boss on half speed, it's almost like this version of LDR would be the product.
There is a gear change in her collaboration with The Weeknd though, suggesting we may be in for a more eclectic record that anticipated. Sounding far more contemporary, with a powerful beat, this is light years away from Lana trying to evoke Springsteen, here she's closer to channeling Aviici. Such diversity perhaps does have to be expected when she's working with a member of Fleetwood Mac and one of the biggest pop acts of the last few years, so aybe something radical is indeed on the horizon from Lana Del Rey. All will be revealed on the 21st July.
