10 Most Anticipated Upcoming Metal Albums Of 2017

5. Myrkur – Mareridt (13 October)

After releasing an absolute stunner of a debut album in the form of the supernatural mesmerizer M, Denmark’s black metal soloist Myrkur is ready to delve into the unknown once again with her second LP Mareridt.

The two singles released from the album so far indicate that this may be the Danish artist’s finest output to date – quite the accomplishment considering how highly regarded her last record is. Of the two tracks, the hypnotizing “Ulvinde” stands out as not only one of the best songs Myrkur’s ever written, but one of the best tracks in metal this year. As soon as the spacious drums kick in, you know you’re in for a sky-bound journey. It’s atmospheric, it’s dense, and it’s wonderfully arranged, with every instrument occupying a unique space in the track’s multi-faceted framework.

You’ll be hard pressed to find anything more ethereal in metal this year, so fingers crossed the album delivers the same kind of enchantment that “Ulvinde” delivers. Oh, and the in your face blast of noise that “Måneblôt” brings to the table too.
