10 Most Bizarre Celebrity Cameos In Music Videos
2. Jake Gyllenhaal - Vampire Weekend - Giving Up The Gun
Following the immense success of their self-titled album in 2008, Vampire Weekend released Contra in 2010, featuring hit single Cousins, followed by Giving Up the Gun - a cover of L'Homme Run, vocalist Ezra Koenig's side project.
Directed by music video director extraordinaires The Malloys, the video is set at an indoor tennis tournament officiated by Wu-Tang Clan leader RZA, whereby a female tennis player - portrayed by Jenny Murray, who also appeared in Vampire Weekend's Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa - is tearing through the competition. While the climax of the video sees her eventually competing against herself, with some advice from Lil Jon in subtitled French, the opponents she takes on beforehand are surprise packages as Joe Jonas and Jake Gyllenhaal take to the court!
Gyllenhaal, at this time, had undoubtedly already cemented his name on the A-list, having starred in Donnie Darko ten years previous, followed up with The Day After Tomorrow, Brokeback Mountain, Jarhead, and Zodiac, so his appearance in a Vampire Weekend video surprised many.
The appearance here, though, also cements his place on this list in one of the wackiest celebrity cameos in any music video, with literal fireballs being volleyed back and forth to add to the insanity.
Gyllenhaal has since gone on to star in Spiderman: Far From Home, Love & Other Drugs, Prisoners, Source Code, and Life, among others.
