10 Most Controversial Songs In Rock History
6. Better By You Better Than Me - Judas Priest
From day one, metal has always been hit with accusations of leading kids off the beaten path. As much as acts like Black Sabbath help kids to get rid of their negative emotions, there are always those parents who decide that their children should be listening to something much more productive instead. While this kind of overprotective nature makes no sense, you can kind of see where they're coming from in the case of Judas Priest.
During the start of their late '80s tour of America, Priest were given a subpoena by the parents of two fans who alleged that they were responsible for their deaths. As they told it, these boys were listening to the album Stained Class and decided to commit suicide as a response to what they were hearing. Despite every effort to refute this, Priest ended up going to criminal court and were in serious consideration for being responsible for these fans' deaths.
It got to the point where the families were so desperate to nail them that they entertained the idea of the cover song Better By You Better Than Me having a backwards message behind it suggesting that you should kill yourself. Though Priest were blessed by the Metal Gods by walking free, the gloom of this entire ordeal still feels like a stain on their legacy.
