10 Most Controversial Songs In Rock History
5. God Save the Queen - Sex Pistols
If there's one thing that can make you shoot to the top of the charts, it's off of some controversy. After all, most of the greatest metal bands in the world got to where they are today because teenagers couldn't get enough of something that was just the tiniest bit irresponsible for them to be listening to. If you wanted to reach legendary status though, you would need to aim your shots a little higher.
While the Sex Pistols were far from the greatest musicians in the world, they sure knew how to spark some outrage with God Save the Queen, which became one of the go to anthems for the UK punk movement. Aside from the lyrics about having no future in England, the opening lines are enough to get the higher ups talking, as they begin to talk about the monarchy as a fascist regime and dumbing down the youth of England.
That was just the start of the antics though, with the Sex Pistols getting a boat and crashing Queen Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee, taking the piss out of the entire ordeal. As much as some people might want to go the extra mile to shock, this is just the kind of stuff that's going to get you sent to prison if you're not careful.
