10 Most Depressing Music Videos Of The 21st Century

4. Family Portrait - Pink

The topic of divorce is not a topic that is regularly addressed in song, but Pink's 2001 song does it brilliantly. What makes this song work so well is the choice to tell the story from the perspective of a child, something this music video utilises perfectly.

The music video sees adult Pink and an identically dressed girl representing her younger self hanging out together, but with the child version miming the lyrics. It is a great choice, as it really shows the symbolism of Pink reflecting back on a horrid time in her life, her younger self's innocence making the situation all the more heart wrenching.

The final moments when the young version of Pink descends into a picture of the perfect family, leaving her older version behind, is the final act of heartbreak placed upon the viewer. This video makes for extra hard viewing for anyone who has had to endure the all too familiar pain of a family breakdown, so avoid at all costs if this is the case, unless you feel like a real good cry.
