10 Most Disturbing Music Videos In Hard Rock
6. Vermilion - Slipknot
Many metalheads have come to expect nothing less than disturbing from a Slipknot video. I mean, when you have a band like this who wear disturbing masks as a part of their onstage setup, you're not going to get a Backstreet Boys style glamorous video, right? Though the intensity was pushed back a little bit on Vermilion, the video didn't skimp out on the darker tones.
Almost having a manic tone to the movement, the main character of the song seems to be living her ideal (if not a touch bizarre) life, as she checks on her butterfly before being greeted by the other members of the band in their trademark masks. As she makes her way through the streets of LA though, the song's darker theme follows her, culminating in her weeping in the streets with Corey Taylor intoning that this idealized version of her isn't even real.
Even the sequel song Vermilion Pt. 2 acts as a worthy companion piece to the former, with the same character floating stoically through a barren landscape, almost like she past any hope of sanity a long time ago. While the sound of Slipknot was starting to turn a corner at this point in their career, a video like this at least showed that they still had a taste for all things disturbed.
