10 Most Embarrassing Onstage Moments In Rock
4. Lars Ulrich's Drum Fails
Not many people are willing to give Lars Ulrich that much of a fair shot these days for keeping Metallica going. For as much as something like the Napster debacle and his more pompous moments seem to be a little questionable in retrospect, these thrash legends wouldn't be where they are today without Lars actually taking the proper precautions behind the scenes. Even if he plays a big role on the business end of things, his drumming performances haven't held up nearly as well.
Ever since the Death Magnetic tour, people have been more than willing to bash Ulrich's new approach to drumming as pretty bad, going so far as to make entire compilations of them online showing his perceived incompetence. Though any of them could have made this list, the most egregious moment has to be from when Metallica were performing their classic rendition of Am I Evil? by Diamond Head.
Considering the basics of the opening drum beat, Ulrich keeps it going for a few moments only to screw up the marching beat, causing James Hetfield to bust out laughing as the band goes along. This has been nothing new though, as Jason Newsted would question why Lars never stayed at rehearsal during Metallica's downtime. Going by what we see here though, it might benefit Lars to put in a few more hours behind the kit before showtime.
