10 Most Emotional Onstage Moments In Rock

9. Ziggy's Final Show - David Bowie

Once rock had fully got a taste for glam rock, there was no disputing David Bowie as the absolute king of the genre. Being one of the true freaks of nature in rock, Bowie's initial art rock musings gave way to his mammoth character Ziggy Stardust, which gave him more classics than he could possibly imagine off the strength of songs like Starman and Life on Mars?. However, fans got the shock of their lives once the initial tours for Ziggy ended in the summer of 1973.

Reaching a peak at the Hammersmith Odeon, Bowie's performance was one for the ages, as he tore through songs like Suffragette City and Changes all while staying in character as his beloved alien alter ago. As the night came to an end, fans were told the inconceivable when Bowie went to announce the final song Rock N Roll Suicide. Giving a farewell speech of sorts, Bowie announced that it's both the last song of the tour and the last show that they will ever do.

Fans were fearing the worst coming out of the gig, thinking that Bowie was on the verge of settling into retirement. Though the next album Diamond Dogs brought it back to the glam rock he was used to, the next few years would be an onslaught of different career reinventions for Bowie, from soul on Young Americans to experimental rock on Low. This wasn't a breakup per se...this was just Bowie marking the final chapter of his glam rock glory days.
